IT can be generally explained as the ability to consistently and predictably overcome obstacles and perform better than the field in a particular environment.

MJ has it, Brady has it, Steph, Lebron, Simone, Serena, Phelps, Usain, the list goes on… all have IT. The sooner we understand which of our traits can be interpreted as IT, the quicker we can achieve our own personal legend.

IT doesn’t just apply to sports, it applies to every profession and area of our lives.  It may be something you’re already passionate about, or it may be something you’ve suppressed due to it not being popular or viewed as a “real job.”

Sport is one of the most visible and easy to understand versions of explaining IT.  We get to view greatness evolve, problem solve, face challenges, and their skills measured up against other greats.  Outside of the comparisons of different eras, sport gives us the answer.

The problem with finding IT is that society doesn’t always support the personal journey and exploration required for many to experiment in enough environments to determine what their IT actually is.

Like that saying goes, “everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

In business, we see this manifesting as the great companies that consistently innovate, surprise us, and grow with unpredictable innovation.

IT is when we find ourselves as a bystander mesmerized by a work of art and asking how someone could possibly come up with it.  Or watching an impossible pass and even after playing out the scenario in our heads not being able to come up with how the passer conceived it, or a dribbling exhibition and realizing that the individual we’re witnessing is doing exactly what they were put here on earth to do because our hands couldn’t move like that.

It’s the feeling we arrive at when we realize there are some things that are difficult to some that we can do in our sleep.  Whatever the path or skill is, therein lies the answer to your IT.
