Ways To Improve Mental And Physical Health
There are many other factors that contribute to living a healthier lifestyle, both physically and mentally
A big misconception in the sports world and life in general is that being healthy comes mainly from eating healthy foods and exercise. Although true, there are many other factors that contribute to living a healthier lifestyle, both physically and mentally.
First off, sleep is a HUGE factor that determines just how healthy we are, both inside and out. A good night's sleep not only allows the body to reset and restart for the next day, but it allows for better mental clarity.
Coming from someone who works out a lot, you’re not seeing the best results if you aren’t allowing your body to recover overnight with at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Sleep also allows our bodies to be rested and stronger and contributes to us having a stronger immune system and less sickness. In terms of mental health, being rested helps with stress levels and improves mood, leading to healthier and more positive mental states.
Secondly, diet is another big aspect that helps health. However, diet does not mean eating very little calories mainly consisting of greens. a healthy, BALANCED diet, meaning carbs, vegetables, protein, fruits, and all that good stuff, it is linked to higher energy levels, stronger immune systems, and even longer lives. No foods are enemy foods as long as they are consumed sparingly and in a balanced fashion.
Lastly and probably most important, listening to our bodies is an essential part of better health. If your body is exhausted, listen and rest. If your body is hungry, have something to eat. If you're feeling down, take a walk and do something you enjoy. Listening to our body and being in tune with what we feel allows us to better understand ourselves and our body’s needs.
All of which is essential for our mental and physical health to be at its best.
